Look Up!

My thoughts on the scene of the Sermon on the Mount: Here is Jesus, seated above the people on the mountain, surrounded by His disciples. Jesus' position on the mountain held the attention of the people so they looked up at Him as He spoke out pronouncements of blessings in what is called the Beatitudes. With the people's sole attention on Jesus, everything happening to them and around them became secondary - what became important was 'looking up' at Jesus and the blessedness of Him being our PRIMARY FOCUS.
The lesson from that scene is, while standing on our various mountains of expectations and cares of life, those pronounced blessings complement the posture of believers who 'look up,' that's why Jesus began each beatitude with the word 'blessed.' It sounds simple, but unfortunately, our very plans and expectations tend to distract us. We look in all directions but UP to God. The Beatitudes are not mere pronouncements of blessings but a way of life of believers whose disposition of heart and natural posture is to always 'Look up.' Mth 5:1-12
Have a blessed week!
